Conception
Ever since it's founding on the island of Jamaica in 1968, by Vernon Carrington Prophet Gad, the Twelve Tribes of Israel organization, through its music body world-wide, has been the pre-eminent conservator and primary progenitor of Orthodox Roots Reggae music.
While the organization, Twelve Tribes of Israel, has remained a non-player on the commercial side of the music industry over the years, a small percentage of its many world-class member artistes have pursued individual careers and are today numbered among the true superstars and luminaries of Roots Reggae music.
These include: Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Judy Mowatt, Fred Locks, Freddy McGregor, Sister Carol, Junior Byles, Brigadier Jerry, Israel Vibrations, Earl 'Bagga' Walker, Pablo Black, Johnnie Osborne, Denroy Morgan and Morgan Heritage, in Jamaica, Che-Fu in New Zealand, and many others. A much larger and ever growing pool of world-class member artistes have remained non-commercial, opting to record strictly in-house and perform exclusively at Twelve Tribes of Israel events, world-wide.
Manifestation
This situation changed forever when ORTHODOX MUZIK, the official label for ORTHODOX RECORDING & PUBLISHING COMPANY LTD., in trust for the Twelve Tribes of Israel music body, was formally launched in Kingston, Jamaica, on November 2, 2001 (see JamaicanObserver.com).
This new company is organized as a limited liability commercial entity and is governed by a Board of Directors, lead by the well known and respected song writer, arranger and musician, Sangie Davis who is assisted by capable staff drawn from the Twelve Tribes of Israel membership around the world.
The first two CDs on the label were officially released at the launch in Kingston, Jamaica.
Both are now available for sale and represent the first of many products to come, these CD's are:
